Cohort 19 starts September 14 · 6 seats left
Switchyard is a full-time software engineering bootcamp for people changing careers — not a side project, not a certificate you add to a resume. 12 weeks, one cohort, one outcome: hired as a software engineer.

The Track
No hidden units, no “TBD” weeks — this is the same schedule every cohort runs.
Weeks 1–2
JavaScript fundamentals, git, the command line, and how the web actually works under a browser request. By the end of week 2 you've shipped three small deployed projects, alone.
Weeks 3–5
React, component architecture, state management, and enough CSS to stop fighting the browser. Week 5 ends with a solo-built, fully deployed frontend app reviewed live by an instructor.
Weeks 6–8
Node, Express, PostgreSQL, and REST API design. You pair-build a backend for someone else’s frontend and vice versa — the point is learning to work in someone else’s codebase, which is most of the job.
Weeks 9–11
Three weeks, one project, your own scope — pitched to instructors in week 9, built solo or in a pair, deployed by week 11. Past capstones have ranged from a warehouse inventory tool to a transit-delay predictor built on public GTFS data.
Week 12
You present your capstone to 40+ hiring partners in one room. This is also the day most first interviews get scheduled — 61% of Cohort 18’s interviews came directly from Demo Day introductions.
Post-Track
Job search support doesn't stop at graduation — every grad gets 6 months of continued mock interviews, resume review, and warm intros to our 60+ hiring partners, until they're placed or the 6 months runs out.
Who’s Teaching
All four lead instructors shipped production code for at least 6 years before teaching. None of them stopped shipping to teach here — two still ship part-time.
Marcus Ilyin
Lead Instructor, Backend
Nine years at two Series B startups before Switchyard; still contracts backend work one day a week.
Priya Deshmukh
Lead Instructor, Frontend
Built the frontend for a since-acquired logistics startup; now runs the frontend curriculum end to end.
Owen Castellano
Instructor, Capstone
Former engineering manager; runs capstone scoping and the mock technical interview program.
Renata Sobol
Career Coach
Ex-technical recruiter, now runs the hiring-partner relationships and every mock interview loop.

“I applied to Switchyard four months after getting laid off from a warehouse manager job. I had never written a line of code. Six months after Demo Day I was a backend engineer at a logistics company two miles from the old warehouse.”
“The curriculum doesn’t waste a week. Every station on that timeline earns its place — I checked after I graduated because I wanted to know what I’d actually use on the job. All of it, still.”
Apply
Tuition is $16,900, or an income-share agreement: $0 upfront, 12% of salary for 24 months, capped at $22,000, only once you’re earning above $45,000/year. Applications close August 24 or when 24 seats fill, whichever comes first.
